Waspy’s owners Doris and Lawrence “Waspy” Handlos were the recipients of the first Live Large Award, presented by the Audubon Chamber of Commerce. The chamber’s annual dinner in February celebrated the community’s accomplishments during the previous year. Cancer center donation

Owner of Waspy’s Donated to New Regional Cancer Center

The Handlos family, owners of Waspy’s Truck Stops in Audubon and Templeton, recently donated $100,000 toward a new cancer treatment center in Carroll, Iowa. The donation was made to St. Anthony Regional Hospital for its planned $16.5 million regional cancer center.  In fact, construction started in April 2019, and the new St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center is slated to open in the fall of 2020.  The cancer center will include three dedicated physicians, two radiation therapists, a dosimetrist, oncology-certified nurses... Waspy’s Truck Stop’s Templeton location received The Spirit of Excellence Award from the Carroll Area Development Corporation on Nov. 5, 2019. The award recognizes Carroll County businesses that invest resources in projects resulting in a larger property tax base and additional quality jobs in Carroll County.
