Common Questions About Tire & Service

New Tires and Tire Replacement:

How do you know when to get new tires?

With President Lincoln’s head facing down, place a penny in the grooves of your tire’s tread. If any part of Lincoln’s head is hidden by the tread, then it is time to consider new tires.

How long are new tires supposed to last?

Your tire’s lifespan will vary some, depending on your driving habits, but on average a set of tires will last from 60,000 to 75,000 miles or 4 to 5 years.

Tire Alignment:

Why are tire alignments important?

Tire alignment is the process of correcting the angles of your vehicle’s tires. This allows your tires to come into contact with the road in a way that keeps you driving straight. This helps add to the life of your tires.

How do I know if I need a tire alignment?

You may notice these symptoms when your tires need to be aligned:

Tire Balancing:

What is the difference between tire alignment and tire balancing?

Tire alignment deals strictly with the angle of your tires so that they connect with the road the right way, whereas tire balancing corrects any weight imbalance in your tires and wheel assembly.

How do I know I need my tires balanced?

If you see that you are getting poor fuel economy, if the tread on your tires is wearing unevenly, or if you notice increased vibration while on the road, you may need to call Waspy’s for a balancing appointment.

Tire Rotation:

Why do you need a tire rotation?

Your tires are a big investment. If you want them to last as long as possible, rotating your tires will help you achieve that! Rotating tires is the process of moving your tires from one position on your vehicle to another. As a rule, you move the front tires to the back, and vice versa.

How often should you rotate your tires?

To get the most out of your tires, and the longest life possible, you should rotate your tires approximately every 5000 to 7000 miles.

Oil Changes:

How often should you change your oil in a year?

This depends on how much driving that you do! As a rule, you should at least change the oil in your vehicle twice a year, however if you drive a lot, you may want to have at least three oil changes.

How do oil changes help my vehicle?

Oil changes are a very important part of maintaining your vehicle. Over time, dirt and sludge will build up in your engine. When you change the oil it fully removes all that dirt, grime, and sludge, leaving a clean running engine. Regular oil changes will easily extend the life of your vehicle.
